At the Fifth Grand Annual Meeting in Bochum, 2013, PPI Jerman (Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia Jerman)  the Indonesian Student Union in Germany or Indonesische Studenten Vereinigung e.V) agreed upon the idea of organizing an international conference in Germany. This event is also regarded as an opportunity to contribute to our communities in Germany and Indonesia by raising themes that are relevant and applicable to the improvement of human lives and the development of nations.

To materialize this vision, ICONIC (the International Conference of Indonesian Intellectual Community) is launched, which will be held regularly as one of the organization’s annual projects.

ICONIC 2014:

“GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS AND DEVELOPING NATIONS: A STRATEGIC APPROACH TOWARDS HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENTS”

The theme for this year’s international conference is inspired by Indonesia’s development in relation to the imminent ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 and ASEAN Integration 2020 in particular our homeland: Indonesia.

In order to survive yet another wave of globalization it is imperative for a country to be internationally competent and all-rounded, which means that it should not only have the means to use globalization as an opportunity to improve one’s national growth, but it should also have a strong, holistic, and sustainable domestic development that can withstand the increasing competition from a more open and free economy.

We are aware that the need of international competence is not only happening in our home country, but also pertains to almost every developing country and emerging economy in the world. As members of the International Community, we feel the need to share solutions and ideas regarding globalization and international competition, regardless of nationality. Therefore at this upcoming international conference, the Indonesian Student Union in Germany wishes that the ideas presented and produced during the conference are used to improve the conditions of our homeland, as well as any country that finds it relevant.
