The purpose of this study is to examine the metaphorical perceptions of arm wrestling athletes towards the sport of arm wrestling. The research was conducted with 46 volunteers among the arm wrestling athletes who participated in the 2022 Turkey Şener Arslan Arm Wrestling Championship and National Team Selections. The participants consisted of individuals with educational backgrounds ranging from primary school to postgraduate levels. Methodology: The study was carried out using a descriptive survey model within the scope of qualitative research methods, employing a semi-structured questionnaire form that included the prompt "Arm wrestling is like/similar to … because …" to determine the athletes' metaphors regarding the sport of arm wrestling. Of the participants, 54.35% were male and 45.65% were female, with national athlete ratios of 23.91% for males and 32.61% for females. Findings: The athletes described the sport of arm wrestling with metaphors such as "health," "strength," and "friendship." These metaphors indicate that arm wrestling enhances psychological resilience and emotional richness. The literature suggests that sports improve mental resilience, helping individuals cope with stress and enhance their focus on goals, while physical activity reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety. The social and cultural contributions of arm wrestling were also highlighted. The sport aids athletes in socializing, gaining self-confidence, and developing discipline. Additionally, it reinforces a sense of national pride by providing athletes with the opportunity to represent their country. Arm wrestling fosters strong social bonds among individuals and garners respect within the community. Conclusion: The metaphors expressed by arm wrestling athletes comprehensively reflect the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of the sport. Arm wrestling is regarded not only as a physical contest but also as a sport that enhances psychological resilience, enriches emotional experiences, and strengthens social bonds.
